YOUR PURPOSE
The R&D Manager Municipal Wastewater leads the R&D department Municipal Wastewater and translates corporate – or innovation strategy and objectives into tactical and operational plans and projects. The R&D manager takes care of the professional and personal development of the team members. You will be responsible for the following results areas:

1. R&D projects and programmes

  • Translate the business and innovation strategy into innovation programmes and projects that in totality help to achieve Saur Municipal Wastewater business strategy.
  • Identify new opportunities that contribute to the strategy.
  • Ensure that R&D projects deliver tangible and sellable output to the Saur business.
  • Make or buy (partnership / co-development) decisions; include innovation activities in tenders.
  • Project / programme management of 1-2 projects or programmes.
  • 2. Organization

  • Ensure sufficient well-qualified employees (personnel plan), expertise, R&D facilities, methods and (business) resources to realize the set goals. Resource management.
  • Connect the business, the R&D team and other departments in the organization regarding innovations and opportunities
  • Contribute to innovation portfolio management and stage gate management in the Marketing and Innovation Steering team Municipal wastewater.
  • Work together with CTO, Group R&D director and other R&D managers/team leaders to develop a high performing Saur group R&D.
  • 3. Evaluate

  • Monitor planning and achievement of set goals based on KPIs.
  • Control expenses to keep them within budgets.
  • 4. People management

  • Coaching and developing employees.
  • 5. Other

  • Perform all common work that may reasonably be required.
  • Regular travel within France, The Netherlands and occasional other locations is required to interact with the business, promote innovation, and promote collaboration within the group R&D organisation.

  • Knowledge on the municipal businesses and regulation (French and EU).

  • Professional command of the English and French language in word and writing.
  • WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • MSc academic education in a sector-related technical discipline such as chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental technology, water treatment technology.
  • 10-15 years professional experience of which at least 5-10 years in the wastewater industry. At least one or two roles in industrial R&D.
  • You have project and portfolio management experience.
  • Experience in working with innovation partnerships (open innovation)
  • Experience in operations or process design is advantageous.
  • Relevant research experience and an excellent network both nationally and internationally and you know the leading experts in your field;

    POSITION WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION
    The R&D Manager Municipal Wastewater reports to the Director Saur Group R&D and leads hierarchically the R&D department Municipal Wastewater with 8-20 employees organised in one or more teams. Current team size is 7 positions of which one vacancy.
